HISTORY OF THE CASTLE

and the Pandolfini Family

The Castle has been the residence of many illustrious Florentine families throughout the centuries, such as the Scolari, the family of the famous general Pippo Spano, and the Pitti, before becoming the property of the Medici family.
By the mid-1500s, the current main building of Tizzano was rebuilt and expanded on the ruins of the ancient castle. In 1585, it was donated by the Grand Duke Francesco de Medici to the well-known sculptor Giambologna, and on his death passed onto his pupil Pietro Tacca. The accommodation outside the castle remained unchanged until 1793. During the Napoleonic era, the castle was bought by Prince Talleyrand, until the second half of the 1800s when it was purchased by Count Roberto Pandolfini and his wife Beatrice dei Principi Corsini. Since then, the Villa is still owned by the Counts Pandolfini.
In 1999, Elizabeth Pandolfini inherited the ownership of the castle from her father and began a long work of restoration and enhancement, in order to bring the structure back to its former glory.

INTERIORS

The villa presents several ancient and precious common room areas, such as the Hall of Arms, the kitchen on the ground floor of the Tower, and the elegant living room, designed with the greatest care, in harmony with the traditions and taste of Tuscan houses.

On the ground floor, the Ballroom beams, characterized by an elegant coffered ceiling, painted floor, and a large Renaissance fireplace. From here we enter the formal yellow sitting room.
Next to it you find the nineteenth-century library that looks out, through two large French windows, onto the romantic garden.
Here, guests can choose to lose themselves in a book, surrounded by the silence and peace of the countryside, while sipping a cup of tea, and accompanied, if desired, by background classical music.
The ground floor is connected to the first floor by an ornate staircase, leading to the three superior rooms christened Contessa Mita, Conte Filippo, and Cielo.
On the second floor is a living room equipped with treadmills, overlooking a loggia above the garden, and the four other bedrooms: Giulia and Liz Taylor (named after the actress who was once a guest here at the end of the fifties), both with a private restroom; La Verde and La Rosa rooms with a shared bathroom. The Villa’s 'feather in its cap' is the Federico suite, with refined eighteenth-century decorations and a 30 sqm bathroom. Whereas in the Tower room, situated in the medieval tower, even today you can still feel a fairy-tale atmosphere. Finally, the distinctiveness of the villa is completed by a beautiful botanical garden with solarium and infinity swimming pool surrounded by olive groves, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the Chianti hills.
